North Florida and South Georgia's longest running track at 16 years established in 1971 as Hilliard International Raceway ran events until 1977 including the NML winter series, and also the live radio broadcast of a 10 car jump in 1974 on WAPE the big ape 690am. Gary Ingrams was the guys name he was a better jumper than mx'er but held his own on the track. At that time there were 3 tracks in the Jacksonville area;North Florida Raceway on Palm Valley rd (where the mini o's originated) Cycleback Park where what is now Queens Harbor off Atlantic blvd had NMA races and Hilliard International Raceway in where else? Hilliard had NML winter pro ams'. So in 1994 after 20 years of racing former national pro Alan Andreu, seeing the need for a local track(no tracks in Jax for 10 years) and having not made much money at motocross decided to revive the old sand track from the 70's.We used the Jax metro sx (won by yours truly) to advertise and help launch the new track and in July of '94 we had our first race 178 riders I think it was. We raced every first and third Sunday, Mc grath was the man and the best bikes were 2 strokes and a 250cc mx'er sold for about 3500.It cost 5 dollars to practice and 15 dollars to race.
You know even twenty years prior in 1975 when I got started racing they always had an ambulance at all the tracks. I can remember being at a track in Georgia where the ambulance had to leave because of a car wreak and the races were held up until they returned even then people knew the importance of having good equipment for the emt or perimedic to saves lives with. It some how gives a feeling of security when you see the ambulance sitting there with a licensed perimedic and an EMT along with de-fibulater and life support drugs and radios with direct lines to Emergency services.

Well I did'nt want to do it but I wanted to set the record straight.Let there be no doubt where the Florida/Georgia series originated First started by Alan Andreu at NFMX in the year 1996 as the Florida Georgia outlaw series a motocross series in South Ga/North FL area. Tracks owners in close proxemity to Jacksonville Florida working together area to organize race dates, keep points and come up with sponsers and awards, bringing riders from different areas together for a affordable/do-able local level points series aimed towards the casual occasional racer not to far from the house not every week and not have to buy a bunch of membership cards...we've all seen membership fees getting ridiculous Now I have to buy a card before I can spend money at sign-up!?We've been doing series for years and 5 foot trophies ,Snell approved helmets (all winners 22 helmets 2006) and Dunlop tires were the norm and we did'nt have a club and thus dues and did'nt depend on sponsers to pay for it all.We figured a budget beforehand and each round /track paid a pre-determined amount after their race.so by the end we bought everything we had planned and we gave it all away at the last round simple. We had many sponsers and that was icing on the cake. Turnouts were 175-200 entries we gave away huge trophies and awards just like the big series. A good time was had by all! People could'nt wait for the next series.
And so it continued year in year out, some tracks closed and new ones opened but we here at NFMX always welcomed the new tracks with open arms we asked only that they contribute their fair share in the expense of awards and contingencies... Randy thrifts' Woodbine mx, Jeff Kilgores' Low country mx in Hardeeville,Hazelhurst,Johnny Wunderlichs' motoplex, , Lee Tathams Alma mx, Hard Rock, and later on Pax trax, Waldo m/s and the Dirt Farm were all part of series put on by yours truly Alan Andreu and I handled most all the awards ,points Advertising we had sucessful races including a 268 rider fathers day race 2003(Best ever 97 429 rider Gold Cup) and then way way later came our involvement with Berni Peroni who bought Bostwick from the original owner...The first time I talked to Berni about doing races he had just finished a series with the guys at Waldo called the Fly Fall Classic series and they had had some kind of falling out even though he wanted to work together he insisted on using the "fall Classic" name... we here at north florida motocross had been putting on sucessful series called the Florida/Georgia series since 2000(heck it was actually 1996) a logical name being how we are 2 miles from the state line so I suggested Fl/Ga as the name and Berni said "Ok we'll call it the Florida Georgia Fall Classic " so I agreed and we did 2 series that went over real well and we three track owners NFMX,Alma,Bostwick and later Dirt Farm worked together as far as sponsers and rotating 1st rounds and splitting up award duties and having EQUAL say about race dates and how things are run , rules and all those important things and as time went on and we all contributed our mailing list towards making this no membership, low cost LOCAL mx a sucess.
Well it seemed mr. berni peroni could not resist taking something sucessful and trying to make it his own,as soon as he started his(our?) website(and got NFMX mailing list) things changed and he took control and yet calling it a club run by its members hah thats a joke!, the more time goes by the more it is obvious that Berni is the only one making decisions just listen to him speak, quote "we're on Berni rules now".
After having another sucessful series round last spring at NFMX, meaning that a) great racing and No one was seriously injured and b) we had a great turnout made money and c) A good time was had by all. All except apparently the old guy on the razor acting under the banner of perimedic but acting more like a over zealous patrol boy wanna be, who reported back to Berni that ours was a unsafe event and we were lucky no one was seriously hurt!!???Not true as usual no one was seriously hurt (one colar bone) We have the safest track around,we are still the only track to have a LIFE SUPPORT ambulance on standby as well as Christine and Dr Augustines ASMF crew, who recently got Banned from doing any races at FL/GA series because they did'nt pay a vendors fee imagine that not wanting a not-for-profit medical crew on stand by at a track with no ambulance!!?? But after mark(razor) had a run in with a parent standing next to the track, I ticked"razorboy" off by telling him to "help injured riders thats what your paid for" not harrassing my spectators with that truck reported to Berni how "dangerous" it was from there things were blown way out of perportion and next thing I know Berni acting under the phasad of the "sports commitee" had ousted NFMX from a series started by NFMX in the year 2000, in fact The dates were already set and for the fall and NFMX, arguably the main player in the FL/GA series was not included,And let it be known that this was not a decision made by a vote but by one Berni Peroni over the way I told his razor boy to mind his own business(save injured riders) and the way I tried to stay involved with decisions made for the FL/GA series I started in 2000. Its my guess is that I became a thorn in Bernis side(none of my input was wanted anyway, yours neither)And it was easier for him to get rid of me rather than to have to work with me.So now again Berni has had a falling out with another track (NFMX) and taking the name(FL/GA) and incorporating it with his own (or Waldos?) the whole time acting as if he has 7 years in the whole thing when he is only in his 3rd( year with FL/GA! . Why after patterning his "club " the fl/ga sports comittee after the new england sports comittee, his web address flgamxracing.com after the popular website; georgiamxracing.com he copied Waldos Fly fall classic and added our sucessful Florida/Georgia name to the long list of other peoples great ideas it makes you wonder if he has ever had an original idea.
Well mr berniperoni I did'nt become a top 20 pro (pro license for 13 years) and win at LL 4 years in a row on my way to 2 Loretto Lynns titles by being a quitter. And this race is a long way from being over,
mr Buddy
